Before giving my life to Christ, I was the author of many secular works. I tried for several years to find an agent to represent me and was rejected over three hundred times before I gave up and decided to go the self-publishing route. It was the right decision because after I published a New Adult Contemporary Romance novel, I hit all the major bestsellers lists (The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal), was #1 overall on Amazon’s list for two weeks, and my books were published in more than twenty languages. Later, my Crime & Suspense series became a film starring William Levy and Alicia Sanz. After my initial success, agents contacted me, as well as major publishing houses, and my life and career as a full-time writer took off and kept the bills paid for over a decade. I managed to do this all on my own (with help from God, of course), with a lot of hard work, dedication to my writing and storytelling passion, and determination to succeed.
But a lot more goes into self-publishing a book than what many writers understand…
